¡Oooops! It was my fault :-(. The folder /var/lib/snmp/ had the wrong permissions. Now it is solved and it's working fine!

Tx,

Isi,

Asunto: .snmp-exec-cache problem

Hi,

I have installed net-snmp 5.1.2 in by Kubuntu box.

I have extended the snmp agent via the 'pass' directive, according the man pages, but each time I executed the command I got the terrific error message:

"No such instance currently exists at this OID".

Finally I decided to check the /var/log/syslog file, where I found the trace:

"/var/lib/snmp/.snmp-exec-cache: Permission denied"

So, I created an empty shell file

[.snmp-exec-cache]
#!/bin/sh

and I gave all the executions permissions, tried again, and it "worked"! But not properly, because the initial value was cached, so every time I asked for that OID I received the same value :-(

One question: why I don't have the .snmp-exec-cache? Is my installation wrong? I just installed using synaptic from Kubuntu.
Another one: How can I solve the problem? Does anybody have a .snmp-exec-cache file which I can use?

Thanks a lot,

Isi,

Yes. You can run with -d flag to see packet dumps, and make sure the agent
sends the response.

That's my guess, or else a firewall is discarding the packet.

You are lost in a twisty maze of little standards, all different.
