That should be possible, yes.
Most of our development is on 32-bit equipment,
so there's always the danger of 32-bit assumptions
creeping in, but we have tried to ensure that the
code runs on 64-bit systems as well.

I don't think anything special should be needed.
Just try a basic "configure; make; make test; make install2

Either *should* be OK.
My guess is that 5.3 has probably seen more 64-bit cleanup,
but I could well be wrong.

I believe there has been a fair bit of 64-bit cleanup
since the 5.2.1 release.  Try with the (just released)
5.2.2, and/or the 5.3 pre-release, and let us know
how you get on.
