Either install GNU grep (and put it into your PATH before the AIX grep) 
or follow the suggestions outlined in patch 1367794:

While you're at it, we'd also appreciate feedback from AIX users (like 
yourself) on patch 1415586 ("5.3.0.1 host/hr_swrun.c patches for AIX
