How subagent detects that snmpd is not running.?

Hi All,
 
We are using Net-snmp-5.2.2 in our subagent. 
If subagent loses session with snmpd either due to network problem or
smnpd not being running, how can subagent come to know this.? If
subagent wants to send any traps in this scenario, how can the subagent
come to know about the absence of snmpd.?
Can anyone please clarify on this.?
