snmpV3 Vs snmpV1

Hi all,
I am using a tool for monitoring my network, and everything was going good 
until, I tried to monitore an AIX box, here I have both versions of snmp, 
the version 1 and 3, first of all I don't know which one to use, and if I 
had to use the Version 3 , do I have to create a usm_user? or it is 
optional?? if it is optional, When I try to do a snmpwalk from the nms tool 
box, the console ask me for the parameters of the usm_user, but as I dont 
have any configured I don't know how to write the command.

Other thing is that when I do a snmpwalk for the Aix box with the snmpV1, I 
got response even when the service that has been started in the AIX is the 
corresponding for snmpV3

If anyone can help me I'll apreciate it
