Hello Wes,

I have small clarification for the same query.

The entry of createUser initial MD5 setup_passphrase DES present in /usr/local/share/snmp/snmp.conf is equivalent to entry in /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf ?

The entry in /var/net-snmp/ would be encrypted when the snmpd starts running and the password is not visible for anybody.

If both are equivalent entries in snmpd.conf then why do we generally use /usr/local/share/snmp/snmpd.conf for this entry?

Thanks
Mahesh

It turns out that the person that implemented the USM support a long
time ago was a bit too paranoid about changing passwords of created
users, and users created via a config file aren't allowed to change
their passwords. This will be fixed in the future.
