I'd rather recommend: env SNMPCONFPATH=/etc/snmp:/var/net-snmp /usr/sbin/snmpd 127.0.0.1:161 10.1.0.36:161 The bad news is that this is unlikely to solve the SIGHUP issue. I can fully reproduce your problem, so I think you've found a bug.
