Solaris 9 - Net-SNMP 5.3.0.1 - unable to get network interface statistics

The same package, compiled on a solaris 9 machine,
works differently on a solaris 9 and solaris 10
server.

Net-SNMP returns the number of network interfaces,
 but doesn't report any statistics on it.
The previous version 5.2.2 works fine on Solaris 9.
