I'm assuming that there is also a definition of 'ifIndex' somewhere within
this MIB file?
(or else it's explicitly imported from another private MIB file?)
Why does http://www.ibr.cs.tu-bs.de/bin/smitools.cgi complain:

Strictly speaking, it sounds as if this ought to be valid.
You really need to ask the SMItools people about this warning - they
understand their product much better than we do.
As Wes has suggested, the easiest workaround would be to rename
your index object.
