Ummm....

Is that true? Or is it just not supported in Net-SNMP?

I am pretty sure I have seen this done in other SNMP V2 agents, Wind
River's built-in SNMP Agent in Tornado, for example. I am also pretty sure
that I have seen this supported in HP OpenView....

That's because you can't do that.  SMI doesn't support it.

You'll need to define two parallel tables - with the "internal" table
indexed using the same objects as the main table (plus at least one
more).  See the HOST-RESOURCES-MIB for an example of this approach.
