Detect presence of snmpd from agentx sub-agent?

Hi,

I have enabled polling the snmpd master agent through specifying
agentxPollInterval in the application's config file and it works as desired.
However, we would like to send some traps as early as possible in our
application (which is started as a daemon on Linux often immediately
after snmpd is started), and at that time, the master agent does not
seem to accept our traps for delivery!

Q: Is there a means to find out if the agentx connection to the master
agent is up, so we can postpone sending the traps until the master agent
is capable of processing them?

I know very well that the sending the traps to a sink is unreliable and
in the time between checking and actually sending the traps the snmpd
master agent may already have gone again, but at present we seem to lose
100% of the traps we send at start-up of our application and getting
some through would be a great enhancement (after all, the chances are
high that if we check for the master agent and see that it's up, sending
traps will actually succeed).
