Dave,

You hit the nail on the head.  I changed this line in the
debian-supplied snmpd.conf:

     view system included  .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2.system

to this:

     view system included  .iso.org.dod.internet.mgmt.mib-2

and all's well.  Override and pass of oids within the Printer-MIB both
both work fine now and I'm a step closer to understanding the access
controls.
