Repeat schedule for SNMP traps not working

Hi all,

My aim is to configure SNMPD to send a trap to SNMPTRAPD which in turn
will generate an email for me. I managed to configure SNMPTRAPD to send
the emails and SNMPD to generate the traps. My problem is that SNMPD
only generates the traps once on startup and then never again. On the
man page is says that the proc (proc java 100 40) will not generate the
trap and that one should refer to the MIB section. I haven't found the
right place to configure where / when the traps are generated. I guess
that the defaultMonitors parameter does that, but I am not sure. I see
the traps are being generated, because I receive an email when there are
more then 100 java processes, but only on startup. Once SNMPD is started
and subsequently this barrier (100 java processes) is breached no
additional traps are being generated. I have also checked this with the
diskspace and linkUpDown monitors. ifconfig eth1 down / up does not
generate a trap.

I am guessing that the defaultMonitors parameters would be checked on
the default cycle being 600 seconds (10 mins) as the -r option is not
specified on the default monitors. Yet even after waiting for 10 mins it
still did not generate the traps.

Here is my snmpd.conf file :

master yes
syslocation Cholsey
rocommunity public
authtrapenable 1
informsink localhost public
proc java 100 40
disk / 20%
disk /backup 20%
load 10 10 10

createUser snmpmonitor MD5 "the first sign of madness"
iquerySecName snmpmonitor
rouser snmpmonitor

defaultMonitors yes
linkUpDownNotifications yes

notificationEvent linkUpTrap linkUp ifIndex ifAdminStatus ifOperStatus
notificationEvent linkDownTrap linkDown ifIndex ifAdminStatus ifOperStatus
monitor  -r 10 -e linkUpTrap   "Generate linkUp" ifOperStatus != 2
monitor  -r 10 -e linkDownTrap "Generate linkDown" ifOperStatus == 2

Maybe I am missing the whole point of SNMP. All I really want for now is
just to generate emails when a specific parameter meets a certain
criteria. SNMP seems to be capable of this very nicely. I am not sure I
fully appreciate the point of SNMPGET. It would be very nice though to
have a central console. There are a number of these online, but i am
guessing MTRG is the best / most common. Any other suggestions.

Thanks for your help and a great product.
