That's what I half-expected.
The current subagent mechanism isn't particularly robust when it comes
to high-volume trap generation - particularly in conjunction with
high-volume incoming requests.
What you're describing is probably the perfect scenario to trigger this problem.

I've got some ideas about how to address this, but it's not going to
be part of 5.4.
Certainly nothing's likely to be available to help your immediate problem.

My best suggestion is to take a step back, and think about the problem
you're trying to solve.   Is generating a steady stream of
notifications actually necesssary?  Or could you address the
fundamental problem in some other way?
