USM user conflict

I have run into a major problem in an application I am developing using the
net-snmp library (5.3.0.1) concerning conflicts between usm users.

My program is given a list of snmpv3 configurations (usernames, authlevels,
passwords etc.) and attempts to determine which configuration works on a
particular device.

In order to cut down on the waiting time I am make asynchronous queries
using all of the configurations and then wait to see which one gives a valid
response. I have run into a problem when multiple configurations have the
same username. I think the problem is occurring in usm_add_user_to_list
because it requires that a username/engineID be a unique combination.
Depending on the ordering of the configurations the correct one could be
replaced with an incorrect one so that when I receive a valid response I get
an authentication failure because the hashes don't match.

Does anyone have any suggestions to get around this?

The only thing I can think of at the moment is to group the configurations
into unique usernames and then process one group at a time but I would
prefer another option as this will take longer than sending them all at
once.
