Hi All, I have raised a bug in Net-snmp bug database for the behavior mentioned in the below mail. Following is the link to the bug. http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail <http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1589813&group_ id=12694&atid=112694> &aid=1589813&group_id=12694&atid=112694 Regards, Suresh. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Pamidipati Suresh-G20238 Sent: Tuesday, October 31, 2006 3:12 PM To: [email protected] Subject: SNMPD not returning "noAccess" for snmpset on an OID which is notpresent in the view. Hi All, When we gave a SNMPV3 set request with a user name configured in the snmpd.conf, on an OID which is not present in the view configured for that user, we got the response as notWritable. As per my understanding of following text in RFC 1905, response should be noAccess. If the variable binding's name specifies an existing or nonexistent variable to which this request is/would be denied access because it is/would not be in the appropriate MIB view, then the value of the Response-PDU's error-status field is set to 'noAccess', and the value of its error-index field is set to the index of the failed variable binding. I created user by giving the following commands in snmpd.conf file. rwuser user1 auth 1.3.6.1.4.1.18568 createUser user1 MD5 user1234 DES I gave the following snmpset request on an object which is not present in the view configured for user "user1" snmpset -v3 -u "user1" -n "" -l authNoPriv -a MD5 -A "user1234" -r 0 -t 10 localhost 1.3.6.1.4.1.161.10.1.1.9.10.2.1.1.1.192.168.1.1 s "hello" The response received is Error in packet. Reason: notWritable (That object does not support modification) As per RFC 1905, response should be noAccess instead of notWritable, as the given OID is not present in the view accessible for "user1". Please let me know if this is a bug in Net-snmp code or my understanding is incorrect.
