net-snmp on aix 5.3.3

I've installed the 5.4 rc2 release of net-snmp (compiled on aix with
gcc) on multiple lpars on multiple physical boxes.  I've got a few
problems across all of them.  One, the daemon dies any time you do an
snmpwalk of the ip module.  Sometimes it logs an lseek error, sometimes
just goes away.  Also, on all those systems, ifNumber.0 reports 0 no
matter how many interfaces I have.  As a result, none of the network
performance information is reportable.  I'm trying to use opennms to
report on these systems.  I configured with -disable-shared and also
with -disable-set-support as these are read-only boxes.  I'm starting
the daemon with -r.
