snmpd is running but when tried to access variables, No response.

I could compile net-snmp-5.2.1.2 successfully for i386 and installed it to defualt path /usr/local. And could successfully ran the process "/usr/local/sbin/snmpd -f -L". But when tried to get the varibles, it's getting timeout , the errror message is Timeout:No Response from hostname. Can any one suggest me why snmpd is not responding. Thanks, Mushtaq Khan.
