What OIDs have you tried this with?
Just ifAdminStatus(.1.3.6.1.2.1.2.2.1.7) or other OIDs as well?

What O/S are you working with?
My suspicion is that this may be related to the new IF-MIB implementation,
that has been introduced (or rather activated) with the 5.4 release.
