Un-tar'd 5.4 in private directory for testing (linux). Ran configure, then make. Looked fine. Recognized a need to alter the MIB directory variable in the Makefile. Did "make clean", edited, did "make". Discovered that "make clean" removes all .libs directories, which are essential. Subsequent "make" fails to restore these - apparently only the first "make" following the ./configure can create these directories. Have I violated some rule? Running a "make clean" and following with a "make" seems like a reasonable action one could expect to be harmless. If this is a problem (I found no mention of it at the web site, users archive), do you need me to generate/provide additional info?
