NetSNMP Versions

Hi, I am new to NetSNMP and I am a bit confused about the version numbering of NetSNMP. If I go to http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=12694 it states that Latest is 5.2.4 >From a numbering perspective Latest should be 5.4 Even more puzzling. If I build 5.2.4 the libraries it creates have the version 9.0.2 (libnetsnmpagent.so.9.0.2) This is very confusing for a new user and the Website/WIKI does not shed much light on this matter, too.
