What do you mean by the "NETSNMP way"?
There are at least four or five different approaches used in the Net-SNMP
agent.   Which one(s) are you using?

Normally, you'd simply indicate that there are no more instances of this
particular MIB object.   The agent framework would then automatically
move on to the next column.

Given the lack of information about exactly what you're currently doing,
then not really!

A few more details would be helpful - such as which helper you're using,
and how you are currently reporting the end of the column.
