Libraries' size and utilization

I compiled Net-SNMP v5.4.1.rc4 in Windowx XP with MinGW. This is the configuration I used: ./configure --prefix=C:/NetSNMP --with-mibdirs=C:/NetSNMP/share/snmp/mibs --with-mib-modules=agentx --disable-embedded-perl --without-perl-modules The compilation was successful but as a result I got very large .a libraries: libnetsnmp.a 18.6 MB libnetsnmpagent.a 7.10 MB libnetsnmphelpers.a 12.19 MB libnetsnmpmibs.a 31.4 MB libnetsnmptrapd.a 1.21 MB Is it normal? I saw that the .lib precompiled libraries are way smaller, is there a way to have similar sizes for .a libraries? Also as a result I got five .la libraries. What are they? For what are they needed? I want to develope code using the NetSNMP API in wxDevC++ with MingW as a compiler. There is a way to know wich libraries I will need and wich I won't?
