Check the script that starts the agent. (Probably something like /etc/init.d/snmpd) This is probably trying to invoke /usr/sbin/snmpd. If you've compiled from source using the default settings, then the agent will be installed as /usr/local/sbin/snmpd. You may need to tweak the startup script accordingly.
