Missing ifMIB table

Good day,

 

We recently built a Solaris 9 Sparc 5.4.1 net-snmp package and deployed
it on a large number of servers.

 

5.4.1 is working well, except on a handful of servers that have a number
of interfaces, including virtual interfaces.

 

The agent starts up with:

 

snmpd[1149]: [ID 702911 daemon.error] netsnmp_assert !"registration !=
duplicate" failed agent_registry.c:535 netsnmp_subtree_load()

last message repeated 2 times

 

... and ifMIB is completely missing from the agent.  Other tables appear
to be present.

 

The machines in question are Sun-Fire-V440.  As noted, they all do have
a large number of interfaces, and two virtual interfaces, which we guess
is related to the problem:

We also tried 5.2.4, which performs identically.  The machines used to
run an old 5.1 version, which did have a proper ifMIB.

 

This certainly seems like a bug, but we'd just like to get some input
before we make a bug post.
