Is it possible to retrieve oid from mib node name

Suppose mib node names in a subtree are all unique, is it possible to 
retrieve an oid using a node name? Is there a way to do that in net-snmp? 
The reason I might want to do that is I am thinking of not using mib2c 
compiler which is a little bit cumbersome to me.
