Reading a custom OID

Hi All!

We have a couple of NetApps and can read the Integer values of the
percent disk usage using snmpget froma Linux machine with no problems.
These match the values that the NetApp GUI shows. We have SolarWinds
Orion Network Monitor and they do not read this OID by default, but have
"Custom OID Poller". Although they have a test mechanism that reads the
OID and displays the correct integer value, they insist that the reason
they cannot read the value correctly to create a alert is because there
are so many different vendors and standards and they cannot keep track
of all of them.

This seems like a lot of smoke and mirrors to me. If snmpd is returning
an integer, it seems to be that as long as the poller knows the OID and
can display the interger value contained in the OID, it should not
matter to it what the vendor had intended for this value. It could just
as well be the number of pimples on the sysadmin's backside as the
percentage of diskspace used. 

Or am I missing something?
