SNMP reporting wrong max bandwidth

I am using MRTG to monitor the various network devices on my network.  Most
are correct, hover I am getting some odd results for some servers.  I at
first assumed it was an MRTG problem, but after doing some testing, I
believe it is really something to do with NET-SNMP.  Granted I am out of my
depth with this so I could be wrong.

 

The set-up:

 

The server I have MRTG on (Isis) is running OpenSuSE 10.1 x86_64 and
net-snmp version 5.3.0.1.  

I have two servers that are misreporting:

                grdb: running OpenSuSE 10.2 and net-snmp version 5.4.rc2

                janus: running Suse Enterprise Linux 9 and net-snmp version
5.1.3.1

 

All three are connected via a gig Ethernet switch.

 

The problem:

 

Net-snmp/MRTG reports the max bandwidth of these devices at 100Mb/sec.  In
reality they should be seen as 1000Mb/sec.

 

Testing I have done so far:

 

Using ethtool, I have confirmed that the Ethernet interfaces on both servers
is indeed operating at 1000Mb/sec.

The switch reports that the ports connected to those servers are operating
at 1000Mb/sec.

Manually walking the remote servers from Isis using the command:  snmpwalk
-v1 -c public grdb ifSpeed snmpwalk -v2c -c public grdb ifhighspeed gives
the following output:

                IF-MIB::ifSpeed.1 = Gauge32: 10000000

IF-MIB::ifSpeed.2 = Gauge32: 100000000

IF-MIB::ifSpeed.3 = Gauge32: 0

IF-MIB::ifSpeed.4 = Gauge32: 0

 

I have been looking for packages to upgrade the version of net-snmp so that
it is the same across the board, but I have been unable to locate RPMs for
my distro.  I did try to compile from source, but ran into dependency error
that, again, did not have packages available for my distro.

 

Can anyone help me?  Either tell me what I am doing wrong, or give me
suggestions for more troubleshooting?
