Help configuring for "extend"

I'm just getting started with snmp. We have net-snmp 5.0.9 running on
several Solaris boxes. It came with the OS, so we haven't done any
custom installation. I have a script that I want to interface with
snmp, and from what I've read, it looks like I need to use the "extend"
command in smnpd.conf.

The documentation says ucd-snmp/extensible and/or agent/extend modules
are needed for the extend functionality. The software was installed
with this configuration:

UCD-SNMP-MIB::versionConfigureOptions.0 = STRING:
"'--with-sys-contact=root' '--with-sys-location='
'--with-logfile=/var/log/snmpd.log'
'--with-persistent-directory=/var/sma_snmp'
'--with-default-snmp-version=3' '--enable-shared=yes'
'--enable-developer=yes' '--with-libs=-ldl' '--with-defaults=no'
'--prefix=/usr/sfw' '--enable-ipv6' '--datadir=/etc/sma'
'--with-mibdirs=/etc/sma/snmp/mibs' '--with-cc=cc'
'--enable-agentx-dom-sock-only' '--with-mib-modules=host
disman/event-mib ucd-snmp/diskio' '--with-cflags=-Dsolaris_2 -xarch=v9'
'--with-transports=UDP UDPIPv6 TCPIPv6 TCP'
'--with-pkcs=/usr/lib/sparcv9' '--with-ldflags=-R../lib/sparcv9
-xarch=v9' '--libdir=/usr/sfw/lib/sparcv9'"

I'm guessing that means net-snmp is not configured properly to handle
"extend". Do I need a later version of snmp to use "extend" or can I
reinstall with different options? Also, do I need to have
NET-SNMP-EXTEND-MIB? I looked at it briefly and I see "exec" and "sh",
but not "extend" in the code.

Thanks for any guidance!
