Found the reason for this. Somehow, the snmpd does NOT understand interface names longer than 8 symbols (chars).
And when you have aggregated links with vlans on it, e.g. bond0.900
you will have a problem. One issue to solve this is change the vconfig tool naming context to vlanXXX for example. However, its a bit difficult to do this in a production environment, so my question is can the length of if names in the snmpd be changed?

Greets,
I am trying to get snmpd working on a Debian Lenny, it starts ok but as soon as started the snmpd reports ioctl 35123 returned -1 and after a while ( less than a minute ) it exits. I tried the -V option but no additional output is given. The machine is used for pppoe concentrator and has two bonded interfaces ( Aggregated ) and vlans defined on the one of them. I suppose the naming of the interfaces is the problem, but am not sure.
Any suggestions or ideas would be highly appreciated.
