Error during netsnmp make : cannot find -lelf

I am getting following Error message during "make"  :

 

/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lelf

collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

make[1]: *** [snmpd] Error 1

make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/ranjan/net-snmp-5.4.1/agent'

make: *** [subdirs] Error 1

[root@st-linux net-snmp-5.4.1]#

 

 

I checked /usr/lib directory has libelf-0.76.so and libelf.so.1 files.

 

Please tell me why this problem is coming and what can be the probable
solution.
