There's believed to be a dedicated fix for this problem in SVN and we'd be interested to know whether it fixes the crash for you. You could either build your own from http://www.net-snmp.org/nightly/tarballs/ or try a binary snapshot package from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/net-snmp/Debian_Etch/ .
