This is a bit of a long-shot, but it's worth checking whether there might
be some non-printing characters in the config file, that are confusing
the config parsing code.

What does the command

   sed -n 126p /etc/snmp/master/snmpd.conf | cat -vte

display?

Also, how are you starting the agent?
What's the exact command that you invoke?
