SNMP.pm configuration robustness

Hello
I'm writing an SNMP to XML-RPC proxy in Perl using Net-SNMP 5.4.1. After some
other work on the development box I'm using, I have values returned thus:
Wrong Type (should be INTEGER): 260
I am not interested in the warnings, I'm more interested in ensuring the
application is robust when installed on systems other than mine.
This leads me on to a broader subject - what things can I do to make sure that
data is presented to SNMP.pm and my application in the way I'm expecting? As
an example, I don't care for quoted strings.
