This is Phani Kolli working as a TAM consultant seeking your help or
suggestions with regards to net-SNMP.

I am newbie to net-SNMP (even to SNMP). But I would like to install and
configure net-SNMP on AIX 5.3 to monitor system resources, traffic and
usage.... etc...

As we configured micro partitions the normal SNMP demon is not providing the
exact details of memory usage.

So can you please guide me how to install and configure and make it work
(net-SNMP) on AIX 5.3, If you have any document with instructions then that
would be a great help.

As I am planning to install and configure the net-SNMP on AIX5.3 (64 bit).

Can you please provide me the installation and configuration procedures?

1. Installation procedure (keep in mind that I am installing on AIX
5.3 (64 bit)

Right now we are trying /net-snmp-5.4.1.1# ./configure
--without-kmem-usage…. Its saying install and configure is done but none of
the folders is creating or updating

2. After successful install of net-SNMP where can I find the files?

3. How can I make sure that net-SNMP installed in a proper way.

4. What is the procedure to configure net-SNMP?

5. To configure net-SNMP are there any precautions/prerequisites that I
need to care about.

6. How can I make sure that I configured net-SNMP in a proper way.

7. While configuring, what are all the files that net-SNMP will make
changes to, if there are any.

8. How can I monitor CPU, DISK, MEMORY and Network Traffic by using
net-SNMP?

9. After installation/configuration do I need to start Agent? If yes,
then how can I.

10. How can I integrate or mix net-SNMP with MRTG?

At the same time let me tell you one of the problems that I have faced while
installing net-SNMP.

While installing net-SNMP it is reporting that some files are not available.
When I looked for those files, they were there in the specified location but
with lower case. If I change that to upper case then the installation is
going on smoothly. This has happened almost 15 to 20 times.

For example:

configure: WARNING: mib module error

configure: error: mib module "default_modules" requires module "mibII" but
mibII

.h or mibII.c could not be found in ./agent/mibgroup

BRKSVX20e/home/ivmgr/net-snmp-5.4.1.1#

But when I look for this file I found the following under
/net-snmp-5.4.1.1/agent/mibgroup

mibii winExtDLL.h

mibii.h
