SnmpV3 traps and engineID

Hi:

 

I am able to send traps out and have them received by a configured
server when I specify the engine id in the snmptrapd.conf files of the
remote machine and the local machine and in the snmptrap command that
actually sends the trap out.

 

I would like to be able to not specify the engine id in sending the
snmptrap command, and just use the default engine id of the machine and
then only have to manually configure the snmptrapd.conf files, but when
I do not specify the engine id in the command line of snmptrap, when I
look at the engine id the dumped packets it varies each time using the
random number generator and the time  to generate the engine id.  I
would like to be able to configure the engine id being sent out to be
fixed and have tried using the engineIDType 1 to use the IP address of
the local machine, this works when I set it in the snmpd.conf file for
commands like snmpwalk but I still get random engine ids when I set it
in snmptrapd.conf.

 

Is there any way to fix the engineId being used in the snmptrap command
other than by specifying it on the command line with the -e option?
