And it worked!! Solairs10 has comes with snmpd installed. I discovered that there are three executables: the default, which doesn't work, is /usr/sfw/sbin/snmpd. But I tried /usr/sfw/sbin/i86/snmpd, and all was fine. I post this response not only to thanks Tomas, but hoping it will help somebody else.
