Actually the default lets you use regular expressions as well (because
it'll notice).  But the regexp support doesn't handle
numbers/indexes...  It's meant for lookups of OID names itself.
e.g. using snmptranslate:

snmptranslate -Ib 'tcpC...St.*'
TCP-MIB::tcpConnState
