Mike, Thanks a lot for your reply. I've actually realized that the problem was the response time from the agent. there is no problem requesting 4 or 5 objects at one go, but if I request more the agent takes too long to reply and snmpget times out. This wasn't happening just after the agent host had booted up, so I supose the cpu gets busier once the host has fully loaded and the response takes longer... Also, I think that the agent is trying to handle a second request even before it has finished processing the first one, making the whole process even slower. For that reason I thought this was related to the interval between two requests. How do I control the timeout time for the snmpget api function? Thanks again. ________________________________________ From: Mike Ayers [[email protected]] Sent: 11 December 2008 18:45 To: Daniel Quintero; [email protected] Subject: RE: Delay between two snmpget > From: Daniel Quintero [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Thursday, December 11, 2008 2:01 AM > I've come across an agent that doesn't like if I send two > snmpget too close together (I currently have to wait 20 > seconds between them). Generally speaking, this hints at a buggy master agent, but it may not. You should check with the vendor if this is the general responsiveness of their agent. SNMP is intended to run in highly resource challenged environments, so you may just need to adjust your timeouts, control your poll intervals carefully, and work from there. If not, your equipment may need some service.
