Using IP addresses for engineIDs can be problematic if you ever change
the IP address of the machine (which is almost certainly likely to
happen with some devices on your network).

That method (if you read the snmpd.conf manual page) is for using a
string encoded engineID defined by the SNMPv3 specs.  There isn't a
published engineID mechanism for directly specifying one via hex.

That being said, you could use the internal unpublished one of
"oldEngineID".  If you use this, put it in /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf
before the first time you start snmpd.
