Using IP addresses for engineIDs can be problematic if you ever change the IP address of the machine (which is almost certainly likely to happen with some devices on your network). RV> engineID 0x<Hex value created with ENT OID and IP + trailing zeros> That method (if you read the snmpd.conf manual page) is for using a string encoded engineID defined by the SNMPv3 specs. There isn't a published engineID mechanism for directly specifying one via hex. That being said, you could use the internal unpublished one of "oldEngineID". If you use this, put it in /var/net-snmp/snmpd.conf before the first time you start snmpd. -- Wes Hardaker Sparta, Inc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), March 24-25, 2009, San Francisco, CA -OSBC tackles the biggest issue in open source: Open Sourcing the Enterprise -Strategies to boost innovation and cut costs with open source participation -Receive a $600 discount off the registration fee with the source code: SFAD http://p.sf.net/sfu/XcvMzF8H _______________________________________________ Net-snmp-users mailing list [email protected] Please see the following page to unsubscribe or change other options: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/net-snmp-users
