Hi,

Newbie to net-snmp so please bear with me...

I have numerous Tru64 V4.0F servers and would like to use snmptrap to
send messages to a monitoring station which can then be acted upon.
Ive tried to compile net-snmp Versions 5.1.4.2 and 5.3.2.3 on the
systems with no luck so have downloaded V4.2.7.1 which seems to work ok
(appreciate it isn't supported).

I have written a simple script to monitor disk usage, if the disk usage
on say / goes above 98% I want to send a message using snmptrap to the
NMS and the relevant personnel can take the appropriate action. Ive
read lots of documentation about net-snmp and tried the numerous
examples and unfortunately can't seem to configure net-snmp to send the
message to the console.

Using snmpget I can confirm a simple test and receive the output from
system.sysLocation.0 so presume everything is ok. I can also send a trap
as below:

# snmptrap -c public xx.xx.xx.xx "" "" 6 99 ""

And receive the Specific Trap on the monitoring host but when I try to
add a message at the end it doesn't work... all I want is:

# snmptrap -c public xx.xx.xx.xx "" "" "" "/ is 98% full please contact
another" ""

Hopefully there is an easy solution and any assistance would be
appreciated.

On Solaris and AIX hosts we simply configure the BMC agent and have done
so for a couple of years but there doesn't seem to be a BMC agent for
V4.0F and we can't upgrade to V5.x which is unfortunate. Tru64 does have
a snmptrap command but this only seems to be available in V4.0G..

One thought was to write the message to syslog and get snmptrap to pick
it up from there but again I can't seem to get the syntax correct...

Thanks in advance...
