hi i'm facing a strange problem today. perhaps my knowledge of snmp isn't enough to understand it, and i'd like to know if you could just give me some hints ? btw, i'm sorry for my faulty english, i'm french. i just downloaded Net-SNMP 5.4.2.1 and upgraded all my Linux and Solaris machines with it (took the fresh install from sunfreeware.com for the Solaris version, and i compiled the one on your website for my linux machines) everything is working fine actually. (im running v2c for tests, but will configure v3 soon) but ! when i'm trying to "poll" the Sun OID, on (and from) a Solaris machine (tried on both sparc and x86 archs), i cannot get it it gives me this : /usr/sfw/bin/snmpwalk -v 2c -c public localhost .1.3.6.1.4.1.42 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OIDc localhost .1.3.6.1.4.1.42 While when i stop net-snmp 5.4.2.1, and re-enable Sun's native SNMP (snmpdx+sma services) i can poll it : 16:21:51 root@sps-dump-001 /: /usr/sfw/bin/snmpwalk -v 2c -c public localhost .1.3.6.1.4.1.42 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.1.0 = STRING: "/var/snmp/snmpdx.st" SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.2.0 = STRING: "/etc/snmp/conf/snmpdx.rsrc" SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.3.0 = STRING: "/etc/snmp/conf" SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.4.0 = INTEGER: 38021 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.5.0 = "" SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.6.0 = INTEGER: 240 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.7.0 = INTEGER: 999999999 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.8.1.1.2 = INTEGER: 2 SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.8.1.1.1 = INTEGER: 1 Error: OID not increasing: SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.8.1.1.2 >= SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.42.2.15.8.1.1.1 16:21:59 root@sps-dump-001 /: so i wonder if there was any difference between your net-snmp and sun's snmp ? how can i make my "new" net-snmp 5.4.2.1 working with Sun OID ? must i compile it with special flags ? must i install some additionnal files ? must i give my conf file some particular settings ? even without special mibs, i "should" be able to poll the OID right ?. i can't get it xd don't hesitate to ask me anything and thanks in advance for your response regards, Olivier GRIFFIN ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OpenSolaris 2009.06 is a cutting edge operating system for enterprises looking to deploy the next generation of Solaris that includes the latest innovations from Sun and the OpenSource community.
