You shouldn't be getting authFail traps.
I suggest you take a close look at how the agent is configured.

linkUp/Down processing is based on the "monitor" directive.
Check the snmpd.conf(5) man page description of "monitor" - in
particular, the '-S' directive.

Edit the code, and recompile the agent.
