net-snmp session

Hi All,
           I am exploring how the snmp work with respect to net-snmp stack.
           I have the basic question regarding session establishment.
           When the session start ?
            In what scenario does it start.
          How many session exist when appication start.
         Does every set/get request create a new session or it work with
some existing session ?
