I'd troubleshoot this by capturing SNMP traffic with tcpdump and looking to see what the last few OIDs were that were requested successfully before the snmp daemon hung. Alternatively, you could try removing any HP-specific SNMP extensions on your agent and running one of the SolarWinds applications again. It may be that GET-ing a certain OID, or a row in a table, is causing a problem - and that OID isn't one that Cacti ever retrieves. I had similar with a NetWare 5 server some years back - snmpwalk crashed the server entirely due to bad code in one of the then-Compaq specific tables.
