It *is* the only practical way to tell which SNMP versions a particular agent supports) If you're talking about the Net-SNMP agent, then this almost certainly supports all three versions of SNMP. With the Net-SNMP agent, then simply set up access control (See above). If you are using another vendor's agent, then you would need to talk to them about what versions it supports, and how to configure it.
