That was the problem all right. Thanks a bunch.

Note to self: If you C&P a piece code, then realize you did something
wrong and have to re-structure it, make sure to check afterwards that
you didn't lose any of the copied code. You can save a lot of time and
sanity that way...

Just one more question: Is there a documentation of Net-SNMP that goes
beyond barely commented lists of functions and the two little example
programs? I had to dig through headers even to find out about
snmp_add_var() when I needed it...
