Just to provide you some feedback: I configured my snmpd exactly like
this. But although I'm not able to retrieve statistics from the network
interfaces anymore, snmpd keeps slowing down the system whenever I
add/remove network interfaces (or aliases, respectively). My solution
for now is, unfortunately, to disable snmpd.
