How to run the snmpd in debug mode

To run the snmpd by the following procedure.
./configure --with-mib-modules="example"
make
make install
snmpd -Dexample
Now the /var/log/snmpd.log file is not updated any snmp log data i.e.
DEBUGMSGTL("example", .......), and also the standard output "printf" data
also not shown any guidelines.
Can you guide me how to run snmpd to see the result/output of printf
statements and also how to update the log file.
