It's normally simpler to install an RPM version. This means you don't need to worry about compiling things yourself, and can remove the installation very easily. But it does assume that the compilation options used are suitable for your needs. If you want to enable some of the additional modules that aren't part of a default build (or add your own), then this normally means working from the tarball. (Unless you want to investigate dynamically loadable modules). But when first starting with the Net-SNMP software, it's probably best to begin with a pre-compiled version. I.e. the RPM approach.
